A burst pipe is one of the most expensive surprises a Colorado winter can hand you. The good news: most freezes are preventable with a few simple habits.
Before a cold snap, insulate pipes in unheated spaces like crawlspaces and the garage, disconnect garden hoses, and seal drafts near plumbing. During extreme cold, let a pencil-thin stream of water drip from faucets on exterior walls, and open cabinet doors so warm air reaches the pipes underneath.
If a pipe already froze, shut off the main water valve, open the faucet, and warm the pipe gently with a hair dryer โ never an open flame. If it has burst, call us right away and we'll be there fast.
